Education and Oppression: A Student Portfolio

This blog represents my journey through Simon Fraser University's Professional Development Program. In order to fulfill a part of the requirements for 401/402, I have created this website to act as my portfolio. You will find links related to education, oppression and children's rights as well as some of my own writing and art. When I've obtained permission, I will also be posting some of my students' work from a unit we completed on Creating Utopia/Dystopia.

About Me

Brenda Koch
Currently, I am a student teacher in the process of completing the requirements to attain a teaching certificate in British Columbia. I attend Simon Fraser University. I am a director for both the AtmAsphere Art Society and the Grandview/Woodlands Area Council. In the recent past, I've been a research assistant on many different kinds of social justice projects. I've interviewed sex-trade workers on the Downtown Eastside, worked on projects involving First Nations people who are HIV/HepC+, homeless people, and people struggling with drug and alcohol issues. I've spent my time in Canada working with special needs and at risk youth. I'm also a practicing artist and teach private art lessons when I have the time.
